The publishing house and the graphic studio Hola monstruo have announced the I Hola Álbum 2023 Award, which they define as “an international competition for children’s illustrated albums that aims to promote the graphic and literary creation of the genre itself. The main objective is to encourage the production of children’s illustrated albums through this call”, explain its promoters Mariela Cisneros and Israel Gómez.
Why an illustration award, we asked them. “We have focused on this type of award because we want to get full-length illustrated album works and give an opportunity to illustrators, writers and integral authors of all genres who have not published, but it is not a main requirement. The contest is open to artists who have already published works and to those who have not yet had the opportunity to do so,” they say.

To encourage the production of children’s picture books through the Hola álbum 2023 Award .
ILLUSTRATED ALBUM
An illustrated album is a literary genre that tells a story through illustrations or illustrations and text, in such a way that they complement each other.
RULES
The publishing house and graphic studio Hola Monster announces the Hola Album Award 2023.
An international children’s illustrated album contest that aims to promote the graphic and literary creation of the genre itself.
The Hola álbum 2023 Award will be open for entries:
1. All creators, individually or in teams, whether they are illustrators, writers or integral authors, who so wish.
They must be of legal age (18 years old) and of any nationality, with a limit of 2 projects per participant/s.
The projects presented will be a work of illustrated album with a free theme, consisting of the complete text and illustrations, of unique and original creation of the author/illustrator.
They must be written in Spanish/Spanish or English.
3. The rights of the works submitted must be free of commitments to third parties.
4. The Hola álbum 2023 Prize will be awarded to a single winning project and will consist of the publication of the work during the year 2024, in addition to 1,300 € consisting of 10% of the royalties paid to the author/s of the first print run of the illustrated album.
If the prize is shared, the payment will be divided according to the previous agreement reached.
5. The projects submitted must have the following characteristics:
– The inside pages will have a minimum of 24 pages up to a maximum of 40 pages (multiple of 4), not counting the flyleaves, the cover, the credits page or the title page.
– The size of the open sheet (inside pages) shall be 490 x 220 mm double-page spread.
The size of a single page is 245 x 220 mm.
– One cover per project will be delivered with a size of 548 x 263 mm.
The size of the cover corresponding to the front cover is 245 x 220 mm.
– The covers will be included in the project, and may be the same or different, including being incorporated into the graphic history of the project and will be the same size as an open sheet (double page) of 490 x 220 mm.
– All these documents will include 3 mm of blood.
6. Illustrations may be made with any technique as long as they can be reproduced.
7. If the project is not finished, a minimum of 4 finished double pages with the final artwork of the project and the rest sketched will be delivered, all of which will be formatted together with the complete text of the work.
8.The projects will be sent in digital format (to avoid postal surcharges) to the following e-mail address editorial@holamonstruo.com as follows:
– In PDF format with a maximum file size of 20 Mb.
– The e-mail should include the following subject: Project name / Hello Album 2023Award.
– Two separate text files will be included: a brief explanation of the project, summary or synopsis of the work, and another file with the personal data of the participants (name, full address, phone number and email address, website, blog, portfolio, Behance or social profile on Facebook, Instagram of the illustrator of the project), as well as a brief biographical sketch of the author and illustrator (if different).
The deadline for the Hola álbum 2023 Award is November 30, 2023 at 23:59 p.m. (Spanish time).
10. Once the deadline has expired, Editorial Hola Monster will make a selection of all the projects received.
Subsequently, a jury composed of editorial staff, as well as qualified professionals, all of them with recognized experience in the area of literature and illustration, will select the different projects according to their technical criteria.
The jury will carry out the evaluations it deems necessary, making the appropriate rounds until an adequate number of finalists are selected.
The final artwork of the finished sheets of each project selected as a finalist will be exhibited at the Public Library of Aragón for a determined period of time, which will be announced on the website of Hola Monster Publishing House.
11. The jury will select a single winning project for the Hello Album Award 2023.
12. The Hola álbum 2023 Award may be declared void if the jury so decides.
13. The winners of the selected project will sign a professional contract with Hola Monster Publishing House.
14. The publisher may work together with the prize winners, request the appropriate modifications to finalize the project and obtain the illustrated album to be published during the year 2024.
15. The publisher does not undertake to maintain postal or telephone correspondence on non-awarded projects, nor on the interpretation and application of these regulations.
16.By participating in the Hola álbum 2023 Award, the participant acknowledges knowledge and acceptance of these rules.
Any of the projects received that do not respect the rules will be disqualified immediately.
