The Red Turtle, L’Illusionist, Chico y Rita, El Cid, la leyenda, The French Dispatch… a resume almost as long as the list of awards at festivals like Cannes, Los Goya, Oscar nominations, the César… We don’t have enough gigabytes on this page to explain why Toni Mengual doesn’t need to go out in networks.
This week we have had the pleasure of receiving at Joso this genius of animation.
On July 25th, the students of the professional courses of Animation for Acting 2D and 3D, Art Grafic and all those who were interested in meeting the master attended the masterclass that Toni Mengual gave us for two and a half hours at Joso.
In the first instance he talked about his career as an animator, he recalled his beginnings, projects, telling anecdotes, challenges and situations that have brought him to where he is and which future animators in this profession may also encounter.
We highlight one of the first pieces of advice he gave: We have to know and be able to work with different styles and, for that, we have to work a lot and in many different projects.
Later, during the second part of the masterclass, he explained his working methods, using his films as an example.
He also showed techniques and tricks to obtain consistent, effective and emotional character animations.
Towards the end of the talk, we were talking about the new short film he is making as director.
A short film in which several former students of the professional course of Animation for Acting 2D and 3D of Joso are working on.
This week, we have been lucky enough to witness it live, since, taking advantage of his stay in Barcelona, we invited Toni and the girls to work in our facilities.
For those of us who were there, it was something hypnotic.
In addition, we were very excited to see their faces and the professional people they have become.
They make us super happy.
