The call for entries for the XVII edition of the Fnac-Salamandra Graphic International Graphic Novel Award is now open.

With the aim of promoting and encouraging literary production in the field of comics, the Fnac-Salamandra Graphic International Graphic Novel Award was created in 2008 and is currently a benchmark in the comics scene, endorsed by the critical and public success of the winners of previous editions.

Fnac and Salamandra Graphic announce the opening of the call for the XVII edition of the Fnac-Salamandra Graphic International Graphic Novel Award, which aims to promote and encourage literary production in the field of comics.

The deadline for submissions for the International Graphic Novel Award will begin on May 31, 2023 and will close on October 31, 2023.

The winner will receive an economic prize of 10,000 euros for the execution of the project and the work will be published by Salamandra Graphic in 2024.

The International Graphic Novel Award is open to all authors (of legal age, or minors with written authorization from their legal guardians), regardless of their nationality or origin, as long as the works they submit conform to the commonly accepted concept of graphic novel and meet the following requirements:

  • They can be written in any language.
  • They must be original and strictly unpublished (not published in book format, e-book, Internet, serialized in magazines, or in social networks of any kind).
  • They cannot correspond to authors who died prior to the announcement of this call for entries.
  • They may not have been previously awarded in any other contest, or be pending a decision in any other contest at the date of the deadline for submission.
  • The author of the work must be the person who enters the Prize.
In the event of any problem with the authorship of any work, it will automatically be eliminated from the Prize.

Works submitted that do not meet the above requirements will not be admitted to the competition.

The modality to be submitted for the contest is the comic book, in graphic novel format.
Each author must submit a book proposal with a minimum of thirty-two (32) pages finished on one side only; the final length, for the winner, will be a minimum of ninety-six (96) pages.
It may be submitted in black and white or color, enclosing a dossier containing the thirty-two (32) finished pages, with their corresponding title, in printed copies in DIN-A4 or similar format, plus a detailed synopsis (maximum two [2] single-sided pages) with the content of the complete story.

These copies (original works will not be admitted) must be accompanied by the author’s or authors’ data: name, surname, address, telephone, e-mail and photocopy of ID card, passport or any other legally accepted identification document, as well as authorization from the legal guardians in case the author is a minor.
They must also be accompanied by a curriculum vitae, mentioning, if applicable, some of their most representative works.

The International Graphic Novel Prize will be unique and indivisible, with an amount of 10,000 (ten thousand) euros (to be paid by FNAC in two payments: 50% of the amount upon notification of the decision; and the remaining 50% upon publication of the winning work).
