Torrelavega announces the 30th Comic Contest ‘City of Torrelavega. Stories from here and there’.

Non-professional cartoonists between 12 and 35 years of age may participate. It is endowed with 2,500 euros in cash prizes. The theme is free and the works may be submitted until May 31. This year the contest includes parallel activities to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

The Councilor for Youth, Patricia Portilla, presented on Thursday the 30th edition of the Comic Contest ‘City of Torrelavega. Stories from here and there’ organized by the City Council of Torrelavega.

The contest is open to non-professional cartoonists between 12 and 35 years old, both individually and collectively, and will be endowed with 2,500 euros in cash prizes and a season ticket for two people to the Youth Theater cycle of the next Winter Festival.
The theme is free, but the characters must be original, self-created and unpublished; and the content of the plays must not violate the dignity of people and animals.

Two categories are established:

CATEGORY A: young people from 12 to 18 years old; and CATEGORY B: young people from 19 to 35 years old.
There will be five prizes, two for each category and one general prize, and only one prize will be awarded per author.
The prizes for this contest are as follows:

  • First prize: 400 euros
  • Second prize: 200 euros

CATEGORY B (from 19 to 35 years old)

  • First prize: 1,300 euros; upon request of the Youth Department for the design of the poster for the XXXI Comic Contest, City of Torrelavega 2021: “Stories from here and there”.
    The design must be original and unpublished and in any case, it will be the City Council of Torrelavega who will determine its final inclusion according to the conviction of the design, or on the contrary, its rejection.
  • Second prize: 600 euros

For both categories, without distinction of age, the Special Prize ‘Historias de Aquí’ is announced, consisting of a season ticket for two people to the next Teatro Joven cycle of the Winter Festival (approximately 6-7 shows), to the best Comic set in the city of Torrelavega (the comics must take place in Torrelavega as a physical space).

Regarding the deadlines for submitting the works, the Councilor for Youth explained that they can be submitted until May 31.

The originals, he said, will be presented:

  • On-line by e-mail to the following address: tgexposiciones@tmce.es, including in the e-mail: the ID card and the signed registration form as well as the titled comic in a single file, or individually with the numbered pages with sufficient quality, titled and indicating the page number (files in pdf or jpg format).
  • By mail or in person with the comics printed in Din A3 vertical format (29.7×42), with a margin of 3 cm. on each side and on a semi-rigid support that facilitates its exhibition (a minimum thickness of 1.5 to 2.5 millimeters – thick cardboard or foam board).

And the minimum number of pages to be submitted shall be:

  • CATEGORY A: 2 pages minimum and 6 pages maximum.
  • CATEGORY B: 4 pages minimum and 8 pages maximum.
  • The technique of execution shall be free in terms of colors and materials and must be labeled in Spanish.
    In case of accompanying it in CD support, it must have a resolution of 300 pixels/inch.

The originals will be accompanied by the signed bulletin, attached to the photocopy of the D.N.I. or passport and in a closed envelope where the same slogan and the category are written.
The registration form can be downloaded from the website of the Teatro Municipal Concha Espina; www.tmce.es (other activities – comic contest).

The jury will be appointed by the City Council of Torrelavega and will be composed of the Mayor or her delegate, the councilor of the Youth area and three specialists in the field.
The jury’s decision will be announced on June 22nd.
