The publishing house and the graphic studio Hola monstruo have announced the I Hola Álbum 2023 Award, which they define as “an international competition for children’s illustrated albums that aims to promote the graphic and literary creation of the genre itself. The main objective is to encourage the production of children’s illustrated albums through this call”, explain its promoters Mariela Cisneros and Israel Gómez.
Why an illustration award, we asked them. “We have focused on this type of award because we want to get full-length illustrated album works and give an opportunity to illustrators, writers and integral authors of all genres who have not published, but it is not a main requirement. The contest is open to artists who have already published works and to those who have not yet had the opportunity to do so,” they say.
In a world where there are more and more contests, also in the world of Children’s and Young People’s Literature (LIJ), they explain the models they follow, taking into account, for example, that the Zaragoza-based Apila has a contest already known in Aragon, Spain and several places in the world.
“We are open to any type of project, illustration innovation, as long as it can be reproduced on paper. We bet a lot on good stories, original, that teach us values, fun and with lots of color,” they insist.
“With this idea, we would like to highlight the work of professional authors and illustrators”.
