Graphic Art

The Graphic Art course aims to train drawing professionals who are able to respond to the wide range of jobs in the main industries of image, leisure and communication.

The multitude and diversity of knowledge acquired during the Graphic Art professional course will allow the future creator to develop an activity as an artist in different specialties such as comics, illustration or artistic pre-production for animation, cinema and video games.

The professional course of Grphic Art of Escola Joso is based on a program that brings together most of the specialties taught by the school.

This course consists of four nine-month stages, distributed in two two-year cycles and a total of 2,880 hours of class time.

Content distribution

The Graphic Art professional course is divided into four nine-month stages, articulated in two-year cycles.

The first cycle focuses the student’s work on obtaining a solid core of basic concepts in the disciplines of drawing, color and sequential art, on which to base their training and future projects.
These core subjects will be accompanied by others that are complementary and essential for training: scriptwriting, digital creation and graphic design.

The second cycle aims to build on the knowledge acquired in the previous years. Through learning and putting into practice a wide range of artistic techniques, the student will begin the process of perfection and specialization that the professional path requires. The training of this second stage is completed with an approach to the professional sector through meetings and interviews with companies and professionals.

Course program

The knowledge acquired in the Graphic Art professional course will allow the student to develop an artistic activity in comics, illustration or pre-production for animation, cinema and video games. for animation, cinema and video games.

This first course is designed to provide the student with the systems and disciplines necessary to comply with the presentation of mandatory term papers at the artistic level.

  • First steps on the main axes in drawing (anatomy, figure in movement, volume, perspective and lighting); narrative (vignettes, planes, transitions, page composition); color (color theory, three-dimensionality, dynamics and color metrics) and digital creation (Illustrator, Indesign and Photoshop).
  • Ink Techniques and Character Acting complement and reinforce the subjects of Drawing and Narrative.

Having passed the first phase of the learning process, the student must now seek a gradual improvement in the quality of the work.

  • All subjects are focused on achieving this objective.
  • The course delves into aspects such as fluency in the stroke, movement and composition in drawing.
    The first steps in comic projects are taken.
  • Color introduces us to techniques such as gouache, acrylics and watercolor.
  • The subjects of Graphic Design and Digital Creation complement their fields of work.
  • Likewise, the digital section will also include for the first time the learning of color through the use of Photoshop.

This is the first year of the second cycle and, with it, the subjects of drawing and graphic narrative acquire greater freedom in orientation and process.

  • The subject of color makes the definitive leap to digitalization and 3D training.
  • The Language for Audiovisual Narrative becomes the bridge that will lead to and integrate the student's skills for the film and television industry.

In the last year of the program, the focus is on the creation of a personal book.
All subjects move in the same direction and the work is designed with visibility and impact beyond the classroom doors in mind.

  • The subject of Digital Color assumes its most creative and experimental part and Drawing focuses on the model drawing sessions.
  • Professional orientation is incorporated, which provides all the necessary advice to approach the professional reality that students will find at the end of their training period: editorial work systems, labor orientation and management, contact with publishers, etc.

DURATION OF THE COURSE
Four-year program.
September to June.
Monday to Friday from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm.
REGISTRATION
Requirement of an entrance test arranged at the center.
Possibility of access to 2nd cycle courses of Graphic Art, upon presentation of previous academic training record.
QUALIFICATION
The center's own diploma awarded at the end of the Graphic Art professional course.

Access to the Graphic Art, Illustration, Concept Art, Drawing Initiation, Advanced Drawing and Digital Illustration courses is through the completion of a level test.

It is not necessary to have previous studies to access these courses, although having completed higher artistic studies will be valued.

Access to the Art Grafic course is through a level test that consists of making a drawing following some guidelines.
Normally, the test takes place during the month of April and there are usually two calls.
The correction and notification of results are communicated about 10 days after taking the test.
If you do not pass the test, our course coordination team will guide you to access other courses.

Access to the Concept Art and Illustration courses is also through a level test.
In case you do not pass the test, our course coordination team will guide you so that you can continue training with us to reach your goals.

The access to the Animation course is through an interview with the course coordinator Juan Carlos Concha.
A specific book will be required.

Access to the Children’s Illustration course is through an interview with the head of studies José Ma Polls.
It will be necessary to present a book.

In that case, don’t worry.
We can arrange the interview online.
We also offer the possibility to take the placement test for the course of
Art Grafic through this way.

Normally, every year, during the month of March, we hold open house sessions to inform about everything related to our courses.

In addition, you can come and ask for information and visit the school during our opening hours. e our schedule Monday to Friday from 9 to 13.30h and from 16 to 20h.
and Saturdays from October to June from 10 to 14h.

The didactic material and the paper used in class will be provided by the teacher, but the individual material will have to be brought by the student.

Every year in the month of July, we hold summer courses for 4 weeks in the month of July.

Most of these courses are beginners, although we also offer some specific courses where a certain level is required.
