Animation for

Acting 2D and 3D

A course designed for the development of future professionals in the field of animation.

The professional course of Animation for Acting 2D and 3D is aimed at professionals in the field of visual arts, film and television, social communication, audiovisual technicians and artists in general interested in the art of animation.
Those who already have basic notions of it and wish to strengthen their knowledge, either for short or feature films in film or video, for television series, bumpers, commercials for the Internet with a view to artistic or commercial development.

Course objectives

The Animation course is designed to provide the knowledge and develop the skills required in the art
of animation for professional application in markets such as film, television, advertising and video games.

The course has clear objectives:

  • Artistic and technical development of the art of animation with the application of 2D and 3D digital technologies.
  • To give a vision of the craft of animation as an art and an industry.
  • To transmit the essence of acting in animation beyond the technical fact of learning to move characters and objects.
    Animation is acting.
  • To produce a comprehensible animation piece that can be disseminated.

Work of the teachers of the professional course of Animation for 2D and 3D acting.

100% practical.

Visualization and analysis of fragments of own audiovisual material and of works that are already positioned in the market.

Practical workshops in which the animation exercises are structured and executed.

Production of a complete 20-second animated piece as a collective mid-term exercise.

Completion of the final project of approximately 1 minute.
This project will be carried out both individually and collectively to propose, plan and realize an animated piece.

Course program

The course program reviews the main tools and techniques used daily by professionals in the animation sector to finally achieve the creation of an animated piece.

  • Necessary references in the history of animation and its exact context within
    the current reality.
  • These will serve as a basis for focusing our attention on the best results.
  • How to bring life and movement through concepts such as rhythm and its changes, secondary animation, trajectories, anticipation, etc.
  • This will allow students to develop a multitude of practical exercises in order to master these concepts.

    Basic principles of animation 1.
  • Second module
    Basic principles of animation 2.
  • Third module
    Integral exercise scene.
  • First module
    Planning and layout for a scene.
  • Second module
    Planning and layouts for a sequence as a project.
  • Third module
    (Project) development of
    a finished sequence.
  • First module
    Polygon and elementary modeling.
  • Second module
    Cameras and animation.
  • Third module
    Knowledge of various animation software that can optimize teamwork for complex and industrial projects.
  • Fourth module
    Composition and postproduction for final image.
  • Cross-cutting module throughout the course.
  • This is the basis on which we sustain the main concepts for the work of a good animator: rhythm, volume, illusion of depth, gesture,
    and transmitting emotions.

Course information

DURATION OF THE COURSE
9-month course from October to June.
Monday to Friday from 16 to 20h.
3 months of project.
REGISTRATION
This course is intended for students with a medium-high knowledge of drawing.
Selection of students through personal interview and portfolio.
QUALIFICATION
The center's own diploma awarded at the end of the professional course of Animation for 2D and 3D Acting.

Teaching staff

We offer a team of specialized professional directors and animators of recognized trajectory who have worked in international projects such as: The Illusionist by Silvain Chomet, Tarzan, Hercules by Disney, Shark Tale Simbad by Dreamworks, Nocturna by Adrian Garcia and Victor Maldonado, Chico y Rita by Mariscal and Trueba, The Congress by Ari Folman, Dofus by Ankama, Mia et Le Migou, Planet 51 among many other titles.

We will have punctual interventions through master classes by renowned artists working for Dreamworks, Sony, Tim Burton.

Student projects

Once you have acquired the knowledge, you will not stop learning.

Access to the Art Grafic, Illustration, Concept Art, Drawing Initiation, Advanced Drawing and Digital Illustration courses is through the completion of a level test.

It is not necessary to have previous studies to access these courses, although having completed higher artistic studies will be valued.

Access to the Art Grafic course is through a level test that consists of making a drawing following some guidelines.
Normally, the test takes place during the month of April and there are usually two calls.
The correction and notification of results are communicated about 10 days after taking the test.
If you do not pass the test, our course coordination team will guide you to access other courses.

Access to the Concept Art and Illustration courses is also through a level test.
In case you do not pass the test, our course coordination team will guide you so that you can continue training with us to reach your goals.

The access to the Animation course is through an interview with the course coordinator Juan Carlos Concha.
A specific book will be required.

Access to the Children’s Illustration course is through an interview with the head of studies José Ma Polls.
It will be necessary to present a book.

We can arrange the interview online.
We also offer the possibility to take the placement test for the course of
Art Grafic through this way.

Normally, every year, during the month of March, we hold open house sessions to inform about everything related to our courses.

In addition, you can come and ask for information and visit the school during our opening hours. e our schedule Monday to Friday from 9 to 13.30h and from 16 to 20h.
and Saturdays from October to June from 10 to 14h.

Our registration period for annual and summer courses starts in April.

Once you have passed the registration and enrollment process, we will send you a certificate so that you can apply for your student visa.

They are mainly taught in Spanish.
We have students from all over the world.

The didactic material and the paper used in class will be provided by the teacher, but the individual material will have to be brought by the student.

Every year in the month of July, we hold summer courses for 4 weeks in the month of July.

Most of these courses are beginners, although we also offer some specific courses where a certain level is required.

Juan Carlos Concha

Dibujante, Director y Productor. Ha participado en largometrajes europeos como Mia et le Migou de Folimage, L’Illusionniste de S. Chomet, Chico y Rita de Trueba-Mariscal. Director de NONSTOP BARCELONA, Seminario Internacional de Desarrollo Visual para Cine y Videojuegos. Docente en escuelas de animación de Barcelona y Colombia. Asistente de Director en Josep de Aurel. Director Técnico y Productor para la última película de Trueba y Mariscal They shot the piano player.

Pablo Navarro

Director y Senior Character Animator. Pablo se acerca a la animación de dos modos diferentes, uno muy técnico, donde todos los principios vienen juntos para ayudar en la creación de movimiento, y el otro que implica la interpretación y la psicología. Ha trabajado en un gran número de películas como Ethel & Ernest, The Prophet, The Congress, The Day of the Crows, Pinocchio, Titeuf, Le film, Nocturna, Asterix y los vikingos, El Cid: The Legend. En varios estudios como Filmax, Animagic Studios, Mariscal Studios, Ilion Animation Studios, Headless, Studio 352, Walking the dog, The SPA Studios, Glassworks Barcelona, Method Studios, Duncan Studio. Ha sido invitado a dar charlas y talleres en eventos prestigiosos como CTN, Annecy, Salon del Comic, presentaciones de Wacom.

Manu Araujo

Manu Araujo es profesional de la Animación 2D especializado en animación Cut Out y con gran experiencia en animación tradicional y mixta. Ha trabajado como animador en empresas como Teidees Audiovisuals o Insomne Estudi y es profesor de Toonboom Harmony del curso profesional de Animación para Acting 2D y 3D en Escola Joso.

Sergi Sanchez

Sergi Sánchez, animador 2D e ilustrador autodidacta, conocido también como OMBREBUENO. Comenzó su carrera profesional en FABRICA, centro de comunicación artístico fundado por Olivero Toscani en Italia, donde desarrolla sus primeros proyectos de animación y cómic.

Tiene una larga experiencia colaborando con estudios y productoras desarrollando proyectos comerciales animados donde se focaliza en el diseño de personajes y animación 2D. Su trabajo ha sido reconocido por el art directors club italiano (ADCI), con 4 galardones por su labor como director e ilustrador para la campaña whatever is on your mind.

En paralelo desarrolla sus proyectos personales experimentando con el medio. En 2020 dirige su primer cortometraje de animación, Wooden Mirror, el cual evoluciona como proyecto de serie y actualmente se encuentra en fase de desarrollo.

Oscar Doménech

Ilustrador y dibujante. Ha realizado tareas de dirección artística en empresas como Novarama, Palo Alto o Apeman Studio, ilustración infantil y juvenil en Edebe, Greenpeace, Cruz Roja o Anaya, o diseño de fondos para productoras como Filmax, Lion Toons, Locomotion o Mago.

También ha trabajado en publicidad realizando Storyboards para Repsol, Danone, Ceac y Honda.

Es profesor en Escola Joso, 9zeros, IED Barcelona y Laboratorio de Dibujo.

Àlex Garcós

Alejandro de Marcos es ilustrador y animador 3D. Antiguo alumno de la Joso, es licenciado en Bellas Artes y con un Master en Animación por la Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Especialista en animación de personajes, lleva más de 7 años trabajando para diversas producciones de televisión y cine y, últimamente, ha continuado su bagaje profesional en el sector de los videojuegos.
