5th Edelvives International Illustration Award
Edelvives Group, committed for years with the selection and publication of quality illustrated books, announces its V International Illustration Award. Through this call, Grupo Edelvives aims to encourage illustrators to develop their artistic and professional careers, to contribute to give greater visibility to their work, and to establish new opportunities for collaboration that will allow Grupo Edelvives to continue innovating and growing in the development of its editorial line. 1 The V Edelvives International Illustration Prize is open to all illustrators ofany nationality who are of legal age at the closing date of the call for entries. Participation may be individual or in teams. Persons working for the Edelvives Group are not eligible for the award. 2 The prize will consist of: – the sum of 7500 euros gross as an advance payment of royalties, as indicated in point 6; – the publication of an illustrated book, as indicated in point 5. 3 To enter the competition, each individual participant or each team must send by post, or hand deliver to the address indicated, an envelope containing: – a brief letter of presentation of the illustration samples submitted, with a maximum length of 3000 characters with spaces, in Spanish or English; –a hard copy of each of the following materials: > 3 finished illustrations, printed in good quality, in A3 format: they must not have been published or marketed in book format (neither printed nor digital); the theme and technique are free; > 1 A3 printed sheet showing free theme sketches in different techniques or styles; > 1 A3 printed sheet showing characters; these should be human. > 1 A3 printed sheet showing close-up facial shots of any human character and reflecting different expressions. > The illustrations listed above may correspond to previous professional works not published in book format, to personal creations or may have been prepared ad hoc for this contest. > Likewise, all illustrations must maintain a graphic coherence that reflects the illustrator’s own style with which he/she wishes to present him/herself. – A sealed envelope or envelope that guarantees the anonymity of the entrant and contains: a sheet of paper indicating “GRUPO EDELVIVES – V International Illustration Award 2024”, name and surname, postal and e-mail address, contact telephone number, as well as a brief biographical sketch of each participant. The envelope must be identified with a pseudonym on the outside and will remain sealed until the jury’s decision. The deadline for applications is May 31, 2023, from the date of publication of this call for applications . Envelopes received later will only be admitted to the competition if they are postmarked on that date or earlier. 5 The awarding of the prize includes the edition and publication by Grupo Edelvives of an illustrated work (unpublished or not, fiction or non-fiction) by the person or persons winning the prize: – The agreement will take the form of a publishing contract between Edelvives Group and the winner(s). – The publisher reserves the right to decide, in agreement with the winner(s), which book to publish. – The work may be published by any of the Edelvives Group labels. – The work will be published within a maximum period of two years from the date of the award. – Once the work has been chosen, the winner(s) will have a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 6 months to create the illustrations, depending on their characteristics. – The winning person or persons undertake to work in collaboration with the professional teams of Grupo Edelvives, in accordance with the established contract, to complete the project within the established deadlines, and guarantee that the editorial line set by Grupo Edelvives will be respected. – Edelvives Group expressly reserves the right not to publish the work in case of non-compliance by the illustrator, when no agreement is reached on which project to publish, or when the editorial needs of the moment make it advisable not to publish the work. 6 The prize has an economic endowment of 7500 € gross: – This amount will be granted as an advance on account of the royalties of the published work, which will be deducted from the first and successive royalty payments generated by all the versions published by Edelvives Group. The winner(s) will receive 60% of the amount upon public notification of the prize and 40% upon delivery of the finished illustrations. – In the event that the work is not published due to circumstances beyond their control, the winner(s) will also receive 100% of the aforementioned amount. – As royalties for the published work, the winner(s) will receive a five percent (5%) royalty on the retail price excluding VAT for the paper edition; in the case of a digital edition, twelve point five percent (12.5%) on the retail price excluding VAT of the net income. In the event of assignments to third parties: of the total royalties obtained from such assignments, fifty percent (50%) shall correspond to Edelvives Group, twenty-five percent (25%) shall correspond to the illustrator and the other twenty-five percent (25%) shall correspond to the author of the text of the work. In the case of other types of exploitation (merchandising, stationery, etc.): a special remuneration will be agreed upon. Contest rules here
Miguel Calatayud Illustrated Album Award 2023
The Department of Culture of the City Council of Aspe, in collaboration with Editorial Degomagom, announces the I Miguel Calatayud Illustrated Album Award. Villa de Aspe, in order to encourage creation in the field of illustration. All writers and illustrators from 18 years of age without distinction of place of origin or residence, who submit a work in Spanish language may participate. The work must have a minimum length of 32 pages and a maximum length of 44 pages (including flyleaves). The project submitted must be aimed at children and young people. The works, which must be unpublished, may not have been awarded in any other contest. They may not be awaiting a decision in any other contest. The winning work will receive a single prize of €6,000 and the publication of the winning work. The prize will be shared between the illustrator and the writer if they present a joint work. Each author must submit 3 copies of the complete text (if available); color reproduction of 3 original and definitive illustrations, and a draft mock-up including a sketch of the finished work, which should be as faithful as possible to the final result of the album.
